About Dr Sarah Maynard

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and Trained Mindfulness Teacher with 20 years experience of working in a range of NHS and private settings, helping people with their distress.

My Experience And Interests

I have experience in treating clients with a wide range of difficulties (including anxiety, phobia, trauma, body dysmorphic disorder, low mood and depression, sleep problems, parenting support and pre and post-natal difficulties) with both difficulties that are mild and those that are more complex.

I also have specialist expertise and experience working with clients who have a physical health problem (including chronic pain, cancer and visible differences).

How I Like to Work

Providing a safe, warm and non-judgemental space is essential in how I work with clients.

Compassion is always at the heart of my practice, supporting you to develop this towards yourself also.

I work in a holistic way that acknowledges the mind-body connection and treats you as a whole person, not just your problem. This often includes taking into account wider aspects of your wellbeing such as sleep, nutrition and somatic functioning.

The Therapy Approaches I Use

I work collaboratively with you to use an approach/approaches that feel right. As a Clinical Psychologist I can draw upon many different approaches that I am trained in to provide the best fit for you.

Therapeutic approaches that I often use are Mindfulness based therapies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am also trained in using Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) which is an evidence-based treatment for trauma, as well as being effective for a number of other difficulties such as chronic pain and phobia.

My Credentials and Registration

I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at The University of Surrey and my Mindfulness Teacher Training at Bangor University. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, UK (HCPC). My membership number is PYL25978.

I have worked in a number of NHS Trusts including Guy’s and St Thomas’, Great Ormond Street Hospital and St George’s Hospital, London. I currently work part-time at Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Trust, West Sussex. I have been an author on academic papers and provide supervision to more junior Clinical Psychologists.
