About Dr Tamsin Lovell

I am an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist, with over ten years of experience working in the NHS in a variety of settings, working with individuals and their networks, across the lifespan and in private practice.

My experience and interests

I am trained and have experience in supporting individuals with a range of psychological difficulties.  I specialise working with difficulties including low self-esteem, anxiety and trauma.

I also specialise in working with people who find it difficult to manage emotional responses to life events, as well as those who struggle with negotiating interpersonal relationships, whereby they find themselves repeating the same patterns of behaviour; these often stemming from earlier life experiences and early attachment relationships.

How I like to work

I have a person-centred and holistic approach, where I tailor interventions to meet the specific needs of the individual.

I aim to create a safe space to allow you to talk about your difficulties and for us both to understand what the difficulties are, where they developed from and how they are being maintained in your current context.  With this understanding and clear therapeutic goals outlined, I work in a collaborative way to help you move forwards meaningfully with your life.

The therapy approaches I use

I am qualified to draw from a variety of psychological approaches.

I principally base my work on relational models, largely drawing on concepts from Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT), and psychodynamic thinking.  I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

Understanding distress in a person’s life context is important to me, where I apply a systemic approach, acknowledging that difficulties are greatly impacted by our environment and experiences.

My credentials and registration

I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Salomons Institute of Applied Psychology, Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU). I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), UK; my membership number is PY37996.

I currently work for Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust as a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist within the Forensic and Prisons Directorate.  I have lectured on undergraduate and postgraduate psychology courses.
