How it works

If you haven't had therapy before, you might have quite a few questions. Here are the answers to some of TWP's most frequently asked questions. Please get in touch if you have any unanswered questions! You can also book a free 10 minute consultation if you want to find out more.

How long does therapy last?

Many difficulties that people want to focus on improve after short-term therapy (i.e. 6 to 16 sessions), with changes usually being noticed within a few sessions.

Other difficulties can benefit from a longer period of therapy (20 sessions or more).

TWP will discuss your recommended number of sessions at the end of the first assessment appointment, but you will always be able to make your own choice as to how many sessions you would like and how often you would like them.

What happens in the first appointment?

In your first assessment appointment, we will discuss what you are currently finding difficult, your hopes and your goals for therapy.

We will also talk through your background history in order to understand you in the context of your life.

At the end of the assessment appointment, we will discuss your therapy plan and recommendations.

Are the sessions confidential?

Yes. The sessions are confidential.

The only exceptions to confidentiality are if you are at risk of harming yourself of someone else.

This would always be discussed with you first if this was thought to be a concern.

Where and how often would we meet?

Therapy sessions are held via online video platform. They are 50 minutes (with options available for extended assessment appointments).

Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly or any other time frame that works best.

What is the cancellation policy?

Appointments can be cancelled with 48 hours notice.

This allows us to offer the appointment slot to clients who are waiting to be seen.

If you cancel an appointment with less than 48 hours’ notice the full appointment fee will be incurred.
